Author/Source: ChemChemNet Coal Chemicals Date: 2021-11-29 Clicks: 21 Recently, a meeting regarding the control system for the 400,000-ton/year EG project in the first phase of the 1.2 million tons/year coal-to-ethylene glycol plant was held in Xi’an (at the Xi’an office of Hangzhou Hilscher Automation Co., Ltd.). The meeting was chaired by Wang Wuping, the chief engineer of Yueneng Chemical Company. Li Yucun, the deputy chief engineer, along with relevant technical staff, as well as representatives from Hangzhou HollySys Automation Co., Ltd., Honeywell (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., China Tianchen Engineering Co., Ltd., Saiding Engineering Co., Ltd., Hualu Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., and China Chengda Engineering Co., Ltd., attended the meeting. At the meeting, Wang Wuping gave a brief overview of the progress of the company’s ethylene glycol project, and put forward specific requirements to various design firms and control system suppliers regarding the development of the Distributed Control System (DCS), Safety Instrumented System (SIS), and Gas Detection System (GDS). Subsequently, the participants engaged in in-depth and comprehensive technical discussions on various aspects such as the project’s control system progress schedule, hardware list, design principles, network architecture diagram, and I/O list, and reached a consensus. Hollyland provides an integrated solution based on the DcS+GDS system for the entire process of the combined units in this project, enabling integrated control of all units, from utility systems to main processes such as gasification and ethylene glycol production. The successful holding of this control system coordination meeting ensured the overall project schedule, laid a solid foundation for the orderly and stable progress of subsequent work on the automatic control system, and is of great significance for achieving automated and intelligent operation of the project once it is put into use. The first phase of the project to produce 400,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol as part of Shaanxi Yulin Energy Group Co., Ltd.’s 1.2 million tons per year coal-based ethylene glycol production capacity, is a project that marks the start of operations at the coal-based clean fuel and high-end chemical materials manufacturing bases located in the Qingshui Industrial Park of the Yushen Industrial Zone. The total planned land area for this project is 1,711 mu, with an estimated investment of 6 billion yuan; the construction period is set at 30 months, and completion and operation are scheduled for 2022. The project construction includes a gasification unit, a purification unit, an H2/CO separation unit, an ethylene glycol unit, etc. The utility systems and supporting auxiliary facilities include: 3×350t/h high-temperature and high-pressure circulating fluidized bed boilers + 2×30MW back-pressure steam turbine generator sets, air separation units, circulating water stations, desalination stations, storage and transportation facilities, sewage treatment plants, etc. The gasification unit employs the Corin powder gasification technology and includes 2 powder gasifiers; the ethylene glycol unit uses the Zhongke Yuandong ethylene glycol technology. Carbon monoxide and hydrogen are used to indirectly synthesize ethylene glycol through carbonylation, coupling, and hydrogenation, with by-products including dimethyl carbonate, crude ethanol, mixed alcohols, sulfur, liquid oxygen, and liquid nitrogen.
