Progress on the Construction of the 400,000-ton/year Polypropylene Plant in Yueneng Chemical’s Phase I Expansion Project / Author/Source: Coal Chemical Industry 114 Forum / Date: 12-04-2019 / Clicks: 64 On December 1st, with the pelletizing unit successfully lifted into place and aligned, the installation of the mechanical components of the extrusion pelletizing machine, a key equipment item for the 400,000-ton/year polypropylene plant in Yueneng Chemical’s Phase I expansion project (hereinafter referred to as “PP3 plant”), which was undertaken under EPC contract by Beijing Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd., was completed. This achievement meant that the target set for the installation phase was met one month ahead of schedule, laying a solid foundation for subsequent pipeline installation, electrical and instrumentation setup, and commissioning. The extrusion granulation unit is one of the key equipment in the PP3 plant, with a maximum processing capacity of 65 tons per hour. It mainly consists of a main motor, gearbox, reduction gear box, cylinder, screw, submersible granulator, lubricating oil system, hydraulic and hot oil systems, as well as a centrifugal dryer and dehydrator. Its function is to process the powder material delivered from the polymerization process into granular products using an extruder. All components of this unit were delivered to the site on August 30, 2019. Unpacking and installation of the key components began on September 15, and the initial phase of acceptance testing was completed on September 29; thereafter, work started on aligning the main components. The installation of the mechanical parts was finished on December 1, with a total duration of 76 days. To address the shortage of foreign service personnel, the project team arranged for experts in company extruder installation to go to the site to assist; they guided the technicians in quickly becoming familiar with the blueprints and explained the characteristics and requirements for assembling the key mechanical components, thereby ensuring the smooth installation of these components. During the period when foreign service personnel were on site to provide support, the project team persisted in carrying out relevant tasks according to the daily plan, and made arrangements for the manpower and resources needed for the work schedule of the following day ; The critical period for secondary grouting coincided with the onset of winter construction on site; therefore, temporary steam was introduced in advance to keep the factory building insulated and to ensure that the indoor temperature met the requirements for grouting. Various measures were taken to guarantee the successful installation of the mechanical components of the extruder. The filling and completion works for the first phase of Shaanxi Yanchang China Coal Yulin Energy Chemical Co., Ltd. project officially commenced on September 8, 2017. With a total investment of around 14.413 billion yuan, this project uses coal and oil field gas as raw materials. Building on the mature technical experience gained from the first phase of the Yulin Energy Chemical project and making full use of existing utility facilities, it aims to construct facilities capable of producing 1.8 million tons per year of methanol, 600,000 tons per year of olefins from methanol, 300,000 tons per year of low-density polyethylene/ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, as well as 300,000 tons per year of polypropylene. Yanjiang China Coal Yulin Energy Chemical Company is a coal, oil, and gas integrated conversion project for producing olefins, jointly invested in by Yanjiang Petroleum Group and China Coal Energy Corporation. Its main mission is to achieve the on-site conversion, efficient development, and low-carbon, environmentally friendly utilization of various energy sources such as coal, oil, and gas in northern Shaanxi, thereby promoting the sustainable and green development of the region’s energy economy.
