On the morning of June 7, 2020, the system of the 500,000-ton coal tar hydrogenation project, as part of the first phase of Gansu Honghui Energy Chemical Co., Ltd.’s 10-million-ton coal value-added utilization project, was brought online successfully, and qualified oil products were produced. Tests showed that all parameters met the required standards, marking a significant progress in Gansu Honghui’s coal value-added utilization project. To ensure the successful and on-time commissioning of the 500,000-ton coal tar hydrogenation project in Phase I, Gansu Honghui carried out meticulous organization and thorough planning, formulated a detailed production plan, regularly held coordination meetings, and provided training for the staff assigned to various positions. Relevant departments and workshop staff are on site, while professional technicians carry out the preparatory work related to production technology. The hydrogen production workshop assigns responsibilities to specific individuals and ensures that operations are carried out carefully in strict accordance with the procedures. After a series of operations including purging and displacement, oil transfer, instrument calibration, catalyst loading, cyclic heating, airtightness testing, and oil introduction for sulfidation, No. 1 light coal tar and No. 2 light coal tar were successfully produced on June 7 (as shown in the figure above). According to the testing results, all parameters of this oil meet the **standards. At present, Gansu Honghui is making serious efforts to adjust the operation of its equipment to ensure stable performance, optimize the maintenance of high-temperature and high-pressure devices as well as related technical and economic parameters. It is also working to reduce energy consumption and control costs, with the overall goal of expanding existing assets, creating new value, and improving quality and efficiency. Site of Gansu Honghui’s 500,000-ton coal tar hydrogenation project. The 500,000-ton coal tar hydrogenation unit at Gansu Honghui is the main facility in this project aimed at the optimized utilization of coal. It was designed by Changling Refining & Chemicals Yueyang Engineering Design Co., Ltd., which also provided PC management and commissioning services. The process technology employed is the wide-range coal tar hydrogenation technology developed by Hunan Changling Petrochemical Technology Development Co., Ltd. The construction was carried out by China National Chemical Engineering Corporation No. 13; more than 400 pieces of equipment were installed, over 100,000 meters of process pipelines were laid, and structural steel weighing over 200 tons was used. In addition, 210,000 meters of electrical cables and 650,000 meters of instrument cables were installed. Through two years of hard work by all those involved in the project, the construction deadlines set by the client were met, and the quality of the construction work satisfied ** and industry standards, thereby meeting the production requirements. Gansu Honghui’s 500,000-ton coal tar hydrogenation plant consists of six main sections: pretreatment, liquid-phase hydrogenation, hydrogenation refining and product distillation, hydrocracking and product distillation with absorption, desulfurization and wastewater stripping, as well as utility systems. Using light and heavy coal tar as raw materials, this plant removes impurities such as asphaltenes, sulfides, and nitrogen oxides from the raw material through a pretreatment system, hydrogenation reaction system, high and low pressure separation systems, and distillation systems, thereby producing oil products that meet **emission standards and enabling the clean and efficient utilization of coal tar. The annual processing capacity for medium and low-temperature coal tar is 500,000 tons, with a total investment of around 700 million yuan. At the site of Gansu Honghui’s 500,000-ton coal tar hydrogenation project, on July 13, 2014, the founding meeting of Gansu Honghui Energy and Chemical Co., Ltd. as well as the first meeting of its first board of directors were held, marking the official establishment of the company. Gansu Honghui Energy Chemical Co., Ltd. was established through a partnership between Jiuquan Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd. and Xinjiang Guanghui New Energy Co., Ltd.; each party holds 50% of the shares, with a registered capital of 3 billion yuan. Gansu Honghui New Energy will be responsible for the construction of a project in Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province, aimed at the classified conversion and utilization of 30 million tons per year of raw coal. This project focuses on improving the quality of low-quality coal through coal pyrolysis; by installing coal gas purification units, hydrogen production units, and coal tar hydrogenation units, it enables efficient and systematic utilization of coal resources. The main products of this project are improved-quality coal, Hydrogenated Oil No. 1 (naphtha), and Hydrogenated Oil No. 2 (diesel), while the by-products include liquefied gas, dry gas, and hydrogenation tail oil.
