The gasification unit of the 1 million tons per year methanol production facility, which is part of the first phase of the Huayu High-Sulfur Coal Clean Utilization, Chemical, Electrical, and Thermal Integration Demonstration Project, passed the on-site inspection conducted by the Petrochemical Federation. Author/Source: Modern Coal Chemical Industry; Date: 2020-08-18; Views: 13. Aerospace Changzheng Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. has developed a technology for the clean and efficient conversion of anthracite, and this technology has been applied in the gasification unit mentioned above. The Huayu methanol project uses bituminous coal as raw material and employs a space furnace technology for the clean and efficient conversion of bituminous coal to produce crude syngas. The gasification unit of this project utilizes four gasifiers of the φ3800/φ3800 type. The designed capacity of the unit is 376,800 Nm3/h of useful gas (CO+H2), with each gasifier producing 94,200 Nm3/h of useful gas (CO+H2); the coal feeding rate per gasifier is 1,500 tons per day. From August 13 to 16, 2020, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation organized an on-site evaluation team to conduct a 72-hour continuous operation test on the gasification unit of the 1 million tons per year methanol production facility in Phase I of Jinnan Coal Group’s Huayu High-Sulfur Coal Clean Utilization, Integrated Chemical, Power, and Heat Generation demonstration project. At the kickoff meeting for the assessment, the on-site assessment team, composed of Liu Jincheng, vice chairman of Hebei Yangmei Zhengyuan Chemical Group, Qian Yongkang, chief engineer of Beijing Aerospace Power Research Institute, and Li Taishan, director of the gasification workshop at Inner Mongolia Yitai Chemical Company, listened to a presentation by Shanxi Jinmei Huayu Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. regarding the construction and operation of the gasification unit, as well as a report from Changzheng Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. on the assessment plan. They discussed and finalized the assessment plan, and also inspected the facility on site. The meeting was chaired by Zhao Ming, deputy director of the Project Department in the Science, Technology and Equipment Division of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. During the assessment period, the expert team conducted on-site inspections of the operation of the gasification unit ; Checked the original data records ; Inspections were carried out on the control room, analysis room, and on-site sampling areas; all the testing and measurement instruments used for analysis and sampling were within their valid calibration periods, ensuring that the data obtained from this assessment are accurate and reliable. Based on the evaluations, the results show that the gasification unit achieves an effective gas (CO+H2) production rate of 99,800 Nm3/h per furnace; the oxygen consumption is 322 Nm3 per kNm3 of (CO+H2), while the coal consumption is 578 kg per kNm3 of (CO+H2). The carbon conversion rate is ≥98.5%, the cold gas efficiency is >81.5%, and the content of effective gas (CO+H2) is >88.5%. Experts believe that during the evaluation period, the facility operates at full capacity, resulting in low overall energy consumption; emissions of waste materials are within acceptable limits, and the operational parameters meet or even exceed the design values. Operation status of the plant: The first phase of Jincheng Coal Group’s Huayu High-Sulfur Coal Clean Utilization, Integrated Chemical and Thermal Power Demonstration Project, which involves a methanol production capacity of one million tons per year, began trial operations of its gasification unit in July 2018. On August 18, 2018, the entire production process was operational, enabling the production of qualified methanol products. The project has been operating stably for 2 years, with a total production of over 2 million tons of methanol. The gasification unit achieves safe, stable, long-term, full-load, and high-quality operation. Technical Introduction: This gasification unit uses bituminous coal as raw material and pure oxygen as the gasifying agent, employing a pressurized gasification with dry coal powder and water-cooled walls along with a quenching process. Based on the reaction characteristics and ash properties of Jincheng anthracite, gasifiers and burners suitable for this type of coal were developed, and new fluxes were researched and created to effectively lower the melting point of the coal ash fed into the furnace and improve the viscosity-temperature properties of the slag. The system offers a wide operating range (50%-110%), enabling efficient gasification of anthracite with high ash content (≥20%) and high ash melting point (>1500°C), as well as long-term stable operation, with a carbon conversion rate of ≥98.5%.
