On January 26, the last large-scale tower in the project – the converter – part of the 300,000 tons per year methanol production and ammonia synthesis facility under the general contract of Donghua Technology for the Shanxi Xiexin fine chemicals and new materials recycling project, was successfully installed in place. With this, the annual lifting operations for large-scale equipment at the Shanxi Xiaxin project have been successfully completed, laying a solid foundation for subsequent testing and commissioning. The conversion furnace weighs 105 tons and is 16.3 meters tall; it is divided into upper and lower sections – the lower section is about 7.8 meters high with a diameter of 3 meters, while the upper section is about 8.5 meters high with a diameter of 2 meters. A 400-ton crawler crane was used as the main lifting crane, and an 180-ton crawler crane was used as the auxiliary crane. With the full cooperation of Sinochem Second Construction, the furnace was successfully lifted into place in just one attempt. Its function is to add an appropriate amount of medium-pressure steam to coke oven gas, based on the molar ratio of pure oxygen to the feed gas (steam/carbon), and then send it to a coke oven gas heater to be heated to 450°C as feed for the autothermal pure oxygen conversion reactor (ATR), thereby producing qualified converted gas.
