Contracts were signed and construction commenced on the pilot projects for 4 million tons of coal-to-oil production in Shaanxi, as well as 800,000 tons of coal-to-olefins and 5 million tons of coal-to-oil production in Xinjiang! On March 20, the signing ceremony and kickoff event for the construction of a new 3,000-ton/day pulverized coal gasification furnace at Yankuang Lunan Chemical Co., Ltd. were held in Chengdu. Ren Yi, advisor to Yankuang Energy Group, Party secretary and chairman of the chemical company, delivered a speech at the event. Zhang Ling, Party deputy secretary, director and general manager of Yankuang Lunan Chemical Company, and Zou Jun, deputy general manager of Dongfang Boiler Chemical Nuclear Power Equipment Engineering Company, the contractor, signed the contract. At the kick-off meeting, representatives from various units had in-depth discussions on the technical issues related to the construction of the new 3,000 tons/day powder coal gasifier. The industrial demonstration project for the development of a new 3,000 tons/day OMB powder coal gasification technology, carried out by Yankuang Lunan Chemical Co., Ltd., is located within the company’s premises in the Lunan High-Tech Chemical Park. This project uses coal as raw material and employs the new 3,000 tons/day counterflow multi-nozzle powder coal gasification technology to produce syngas, which is then integrated into the plant’s overall syngas network. Additional facilities such as shift converters, low-temperature methanol wash units, liquid nitrogen wash units, and ammonia synthesis units are installed to produce 600,000 tons per year of liquid ammonia. In addition, the deep cryogenic separation technology from the old plant is utilized to capture excess CO gas through pressure swing absorption, which is then used for the technical upgrade of the acetic acid production facility to increase its capacity by 200,000 tons per year; other supporting facilities are also installed as part of this process. On December 17, 2020, the first information disclosure regarding the environmental impact assessment of Yankuang Lunan Chemical Co., Ltd.’s industrial demonstration project for the development of a new 3,000 tons per day OMB powder coal gasification technology was released. On June 11, 2020, a meeting was held to review the feasibility study report for the industrial demonstration project aimed at developing a new 3,000 tons per day OMB powder coal gasification technology by Lunan Chemical of Yuncheng Mining Group. It is understood that the fluidized bed pressurized gasification technology for coal is one of the advanced gasification technologies available today. It boasts advantages such as wide adaptability to different types of coal, low energy consumption, and ease of scaling up, and has become the mainstream technology in the modern coal chemical industry. It holds great significance for the implementation of China’s clean energy strategy. After the successful demonstration of the new coal gasification unit with independent intellectual property rights, the proportion of useful gas components will increase from the current 82% to 90%. The oxygen and coal consumption will be more than 10% lower compared to Texaco’s gasification process, resulting in significantly reduced gas production costs. Moreover, it holds great significance as a model for the improved utilization of raw coal from Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia, and Xinjiang, as well as for achieving cleaner production methods. Yankuang Group is actively planning a 4 million tons per year coal indirect liquefaction project in Yulin, as well as an 800,000 tons per year coal-to-olefins project and a 5 million tons per year coal indirect liquefaction project in Xinjiang. It is using the 3,000 tons per day OMB new-type pulverized coal gasification industrial demonstration project of Lunan Chemical as a pilot project for its western development initiatives, accelerating its implementation. This approach serves both to provide a model for the on-site conversion and clean, efficient utilization of low-grade, low-quality coal in Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia, and Xinjiang regions while accumulating relevant experience, and it also represents an important step in advancing the group’s efforts to coordinate resources, technologies, and industries across different regions.
