Record of the Commissioning of the New Zero-Emission Facility in the Water Treatment Workshop of Taiyuan Chemical New Materials Fertilizer Branch / Author/Source: Taiyuan Chemical New Materials / Date: 2022-03-30 / Clicks: 16 At 5:00 a.m. on March 25, sodium chloride salt was successfully produced by the new zero-emission facility in the Taihua New Materials Park! The production of this amount of salt not only signifies the successful operation of the newly built zero-emission facility, but it also indicates that the water purification workshop, as an auxiliary production unit, is able to generate direct benefits for the industrial park! On February 26, the acids and bases required for the newly built zero-emission acid tanks and alkali tanks were stocked, the microfiltration membranes were soaked in sodium hypochlorite for 8 hours, and the cation exchange resin beds were regenerated and ready; thus, the zero-emission system officially entered the trial operation phase. In the early stages of operation, the degradation rate of the tubular microfiltration membrane is too high; the designed capacity for a single unit is 16 t/h, but it drops to half of this value within less than 3 hours after clean water starts to flow through it. For several consecutive days, no matter how the microfiltration membrane was cleaned, its performance continued to decline. When everyone was at a loss and looking worried, the microfiltration membrane manufacturer suggested using wastewater to increase friction and improve the permeability of the pores. Experimental results show that the use of wastewater increases membrane flux and effectively reduces the decay rate. During operation, despite various issues such as overflow from the concentration tank of the nanofiltration system, leakage at the feed valve of the centrifuge in the sodium sulfate MVR concentration system, overflow from the filtrate tank, and leaks in the pipeline for adding antiscalant to the evaporation system in the sodium chloride MVR crystallization system, the zero-emission unit managed to produce sodium chloride salts at 5 a.m. on March 25, and mirabilite was produced at 1 p.m. on March 26 – thus the entire process of the newly installed zero-emission unit was operational! Within one month, the new zero-discharge system installed in the water purification plant managed to turn waste into a valuable resource; the mixed salts, which previously required costly treatment, were transformed into by-products that could generate revenue. This not only helped achieve the goal of reducing costs and increasing efficiency but also accelerated the rate at which salt could be produced from the facility, further advancing the company’s environmental protection efforts and contributing to sustainable development. The water treatment workshop of the Fertilizer Branch will continue to forge ahead despite difficulties, actively practicing the \"cost accounting\" culture guided by the group company’s lean philosophy, in order to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and create value!
