According to Sinochem New Network, recently the first green ammonia plant in Japan, funded by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (NEDO) and built and operated by Nippon Valve Holdings, has begun full-scale commercial production. The plant utilizes the K-GreeN green ammonia process technology licensed by KBR, and is scheduled to undergo trial operations in early 2026. The green hydrogen produced at the plant is generated using alkaline electrolyzers supplied by Asahi Kasei. The electricity used comes from a nearby photovoltaic power plant and the power grid, while liquid nitrogen is transported to the plant via tank trucks. At full capacity, the plant can produce 4 tons of green ammonia per day, which will primarily be used for flue gas denitrification in power plants. The project incorporates an integrated control system jointly developed by JGC and Asahi Kasei, as well as KBR’s advanced process control and patented equipment. This enables the plant to operate in a fully dynamic manner, responding quickly and smoothly to fluctuations in photovoltaic power supply.
