China’s deepest-sea offshore wind project is now operating at full capacity. China Huaneng recently announced that the offshore wind project located in the northern part of the Shandong Peninsula in the Yellow Sea has achieved full-capacity operation. This is China’s offshore wind project with the greatest water depth, marking new breakthroughs in key areas such as operations in complex deep-water environments, integration of high-capacity turbines, and high-precision intelligent construction for China’s offshore wind industry. The project has a total installed capacity of 504 MW, with 42 wind turbines each having a capacity of 12 MW. The site is located approximately 70 kilometers off the coast, at a water depth of 52 to 56 meters. It is China’s deepest-water commercial offshore wind project. The annual power generation is expected to reach about 1.7 billion kWh, resulting in an annual savings of roughly 500,000 tons of standard coal. The project overcame challenges such as complex geology in deep and distant seas, frequent extreme sea conditions, and ultra-long-distance construction. It innovatively employed a four-pile jacket foundation structure, which reaches a maximum height of 83.9 meters—the tallest of its kind in China. This structure effectively ensures the safe and stable operation of wind turbines in such challenging deep-sea environments. Leveraging the Beidou system, this project developed high-precision positioning technology that enables millimeter-level accuracy in the placement of piles underwater. By combining this with intelligent assistance techniques, the time required to install a single wind turbine pile in deep-sea areas was reduced from 48 hours to 29 hours. Meanwhile, by leveraging the combined technology of drones and artificial magnetic fields, the laying of a 95.6-kilometer-long undersea cable was completed.
