Recently, teams led by Research Fellows Li Xianfeng and Yang Xiaofei from the Energy Storage Technology Research Division at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics have successfully developed a 20Ah lithium/carbon fluoride primary battery. This achievement marks a significant step forward in China’s research on lithium/carbon fluoride primary batteries. This battery features high energy density, operational capability over a wide temperature range, and excellent storage properties. In terms of high energy density, according to tests conducted by China National Testing Group Southern Testing Co., Ltd., this battery achieves energy densities of 1018 Wh/kg and 1117 Wh/kg under normal temperature conditions (25°C, 0.1C) and (25°C, 0.01C), respectively. Additionally, the battery exhibits good rate performance; even when continuously discharged at a 1C rate, its energy density remains at 841 Wh/kg. In terms of its capability to operate over a wide temperature range, the 20Ah lithium/carbonyl fluoride primary battery maintains an energy density of 413 Wh/kg at low temperatures of -40°C under 0.1C conditions ; At a high temperature of 80°C (0.1°C), the energy density reaches 1061 Wh/kg, with no swelling occurring. Additionally, this battery features a low self-discharge rate and a long storage life, with a storage period of over 10 years. The newly developed 20Ah lithium/carbon fluoride primary battery holds significant potential for applications in fields with high requirements for battery performance and reliability, such as aerospace, deep-sea exploration, and implantable medical devices.
