How to deal with severe water contamination in crude oil entering the tower?

If the raw material contains a high level of water, it is necessary to immediately investigate the cause of this issue and take urgent action. First, the on-duty supervisor and the dispatch team should be informed about the abnormal situation; the water content in the raw material as well as the operation status of the raw material pumps should be checked promptly. The time allocated for water removal and sedimentation in the storage tanks should be increased. If necessary, the type of raw material used should be changed. The operating status of the electrodesalination system should also be checked to determine the current level of water in the system. In severe cases, the water injection for desalination should be stopped, more effort should be put into water removal, and the level set for desalination should be lowered appropriately. If needed, the processing volume can be reduced； Closely monitor the operation of the bottom or initial bottom pumps, be vigilant against pump cavitation. Adjust the steam stripping gas supply at the tower bottom and on the side streams based on changes in tower pressure, increase the reflux at various intermediate sections and at the top of the tower. Slightly reduce the frequency control of the side stream distillate pumps as well as the initial and normal bottom pumps, in order to maintain stability in tower pressure and bottom liquid level and prevent tower overpressure. Pay close attention to the color of the side stream products; if necessary, take actions to improve the quality of these products. Increase the top temperature to evaporate moisture within the tower, and also increase the water removal from the reflux drum as appropriate.
