How to interpret the boiling range

Our company uses octane to blend it as C5. The distillation range obtained is 10%, and the error compared to other instruments is quite large; we use a manual process. I would like to ask whether manual measurements are accurate, or whether instruments provide more reliable results. Another aspect is adjusting the temperature based on the distillation rate, and adjusting the distillation rate based on the temperature. The 10% range is on the high side; was too much power supplied? Does anyone know **the standard ways to determine the boiling range**?
