Is it necessary to purge the catalyst bed?

I read an article stating that the catalyst bed needs to be purged. How is this purification done, and has anyone else carried out bed purification?
Purging is required: first, to remove residual oil and gas, and second, to remove dust.

Blowing is recommended; although a large amount of defective catalysts and dust are filtered out after screening, a significant amount of dust is still generated during the loading process, hence dust blowing is necessary. After loading, seal the opening, then open a flange connection on the reactor outlet line and purge it with clean, oil-free and contamination-free gas such as nitrogen for 20 minutes to remove dust from the catalyst. Acceptance criterion: Inspect the fracture surface with a white cloth; it is considered acceptable if no contaminants are present within 5 minutes.
Is it forward purging or reverse purging?
It must be blowing in the correct direction; follow the normal process for process gas. The gas source is connected upstream of the reactor, and blowing is performed at the outlet of the reactor
