The use of barium sulfate in PVC and its functions

Hello, everyone. I’ve just graduated this year as well, and I’ve started working at a barium sulfate manufacturing plant (I won’t mention its name to avoid it looking like advertising). However, I am not very familiar with its role and performance in PVC; I would like to ask the experts again. Although Baidu also has some. , but it always seems a bit vague; I’m not very familiar with many of the terms. Thank you very much.
Barium sulfate is likely used in the purification of brine during chlor-alkali (caustic soda) production; it seems not to be needed in PVC production.

Barium sulfate is a byproduct formed when barium chloride is added to brine to remove sulfate ions; it is not a medicinal agent. However, it belongs to an outdated and obsolete process; calcium chloride is a highly toxic heavy metal chemical, and nowadays the freezing denitration process is used instead.
