Safety valve: A spring-actuated pressure relief device driven by the static pressure in front of the valve; when that static pressure is reached, the valve opens rapidly to its maximum degree to discharge as much excess fluid as possible, and it is used for compressible fluids. Pressure relief valve: A spring-actuated pressure relief device driven by the static pressure in front of the valve; its opening degree is proportional to the increase in pressure beyond the set pressure, and it is used for incompressible fluids. Safety pressure relief valve: a collective term for the first two. This is defined by API521. It is also defined as follows: Full-opening safety valve: Definition is the same as that of a safety valve. Slightly opening safety valve: Definition is the same as pressure relief valve. Both of them serve as safety valves. This is defined by HG/T20570.2.
So how are relief valves and pressure release valves distinguished from each other? It can’t be just a difference in names, right! ! !
