Does the piping layout have to be perfectly horizontal and vertical? Sometimes it’s easier to work by walking at an angle; it might also save materials and not affect functionality. So why do our supervisors insist on such strict requirements? Are there any standards or specifications that specify the verticality and levelness of pipes, and at what degree of inclination is it considered to be out of spec?

Design specifications require everything to be straight and aligned, unless there is a special design. Just like with welded flanges, the holes are arranged horizontally and vertically relative to each other; this standardization makes it easier for everyone to carry out the operations uniformly.
It depends on the quantity; if it’s just one, you can even throw it on the ground – like a temporary water pipe. However, when it comes to the basic skills, ensuring that things are straight and aligned, or using standard fittings, is beneficial for construction, maintenance, renovation, and so on.
Slanted is fine. But whatever is slanted does so at one angle.

Unless the transportation of materials requires a certain slope in the pipes – for example, materials with high viscosity need to be routed diagonally – all other pipes should be arranged in a straight, horizontal and vertical pattern, taking the shortest possible path
When they are arranged in a straight line, it looks neat and orderly; occasionally one or two pipes may not follow this pattern, but if none of them do, it becomes unattractive. Moreover, the bends used to connect the pipes are usually 90° angles, with 45° angles appearing occasionally – have you ever seen angles that aren’t fixed?
Design aims to be aesthetically pleasing while meeting the technical requirements; Unless there are special process requirements, such as the need for a downward slope in some solid-liquid two-phase flows in order to reduce resistance.
