HAZOP analysis meeting for the air separation unit of Shaanxi Yueneng Chemical Materials’ 400,000 tons/year ethylene glycol production project was held. Author/Source: Huahua Network – Coal Chemical Industry. Date: June 28, 2020. Clicks: 6. From June 22 to 24, a HAZOP analysis meeting for the air separation unit of Shaanxi Yueneng Chemical Materials’ first-phase 400,000 tons/year ethylene glycol production project was held at Xi’an Hualu Design Institute. Shen Yuncheng, the chief engineer of Hualu Design Institute, Air Liquide (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd., and Yueneng Chemical Materials Company, along with relevant technical staff, attended the meeting. At the meeting, Shen Yuncheng gave a brief overview of the overall progress of the air separation unit for the current ethylene glycol project, and further emphasized the importance of conducting HAZOP analyses during the design phase. The HAZOP analysis team, composed of professionals from areas such as production, process engineering, safety, and instrumentation, as well as the HAZOP leader, utilized the Process Flow Diagram (PFD), Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) of the air separation unit along with related technical documents. This team carried out a systematic division of the unit into various sections and nodes, defined deviations and trigger words. By combining this with the company’s safety risk matrix, they analyzed the causes of parameter deviations within each node, the possible consequences, as well as the likelihood and severity of initial risks, thereby ensuring the reliability and accuracy of the HAZOP analysis for the air separation unit. The successful holding of this conference can effectively improve and refine the design of air separation units, and it holds significant guiding value for identifying potential hazards in such units as well as ensuring their safe operation after commissioning. It is reported that conducting a HAZOP analysis during the design phase aims to preliminarily identify, analyze, and evaluate potential hazards in the production equipment or supporting facilities outlined in the design drawings at an early stage. This process helps to identify issues related to the design of the production equipment as well as its operation and maintenance procedures, and it provides suggestions for improvements, thereby offering a solid basis for establishing a process safety management system for the project. From June 18 to 23, a HAZOP analysis meeting for the purification unit of Phase 1 of Shaanxi Yueneng Chemical Materials Co., Ltd.’s 400,000 tons per year coal-based ethylene glycol production project was held at Tianjin Tianchen Design Institute. Responsible persons and technical staff from Tianchen Design Institute, Southwest Design Institute, Chongqing General, Shandong 3D, Hangzhou Hangyang, as well as Yueneng Chemical Materials Company attended the meeting. The meeting heard a presentation on the process flow of the purification unit, and analyzed the detailed tasks assigned to the HAZOP leader and secretary. Regarding the specific aspects of each unit in the purification system, including pressure swing adsorption, propylene compressors, sulfur recovery, and CO cryogenic separation, the participants engaged in intense discussions to distinguish fact from fiction, and ultimately reached a consensus. The successful holding of this meeting has laid a solid foundation for the long-term, efficient, and stable operation of the purification unit in the ethylene glycol project. From June 20 to 21, the kick-off meeting for the desulfurization, dust removal, and denitration projects of the thermal power unit in Phase 1 of Shaanxi Yueneng Chemical Materials Co., Ltd.’s 400,000 tons per year coal-to-ethylene glycol production facility was held at Nanjing Longyuan Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. Shen Yuncheng, the chief engineer of Saiding Engineering Co., Ltd., Nanjing Longyuan Environmental Protection Co., Ltd., and Yueneng Chemical Materials Company, along with relevant technical personnel, attended the meeting. At the meeting, Shao Jianshe, deputy general manager of Longyuan Environmental Protection, introduced the progress of the project. Subsequently, the three parties conducted discussions and research on the desulfurization and dust removal system, the overall progress of the denitration system, the original design conditions, and the process flow. They had in-depth discussions on a range of issues including layout planning, process equipment configuration, instrumentation and control systems, and electrical systems, and ultimately reached a consensus. The successful holding of this meeting lays a solid foundation for the ethylene glycol project to be completed in accordance with standards and capacity requirements, to meet ultra-low and ultra-clean emission standards, and to achieve the goals set for high-quality and efficient project construction.
