Several European countries have set clear timelines for banning the sale of gasoline-powered vehicles; the development of new energy vehicles is now an unstoppable trend. Based on current technology, electric vehicles will remain the main form of new energy vehicles in the coming years. However, range is the biggest challenge faced by these vehicles. Therefore, increasing the battery capacity while reducing the weight of the vehicles themselves is a necessary approach to accelerating the development of new energy vehicles. Studies show that for new energy vehicles, a 10% reduction in weight can increase the driving range by 6%. Modified nylon features high strength, high toughness, and low density; one kilogram of this material can replace 3 kilograms of steel or aluminum. It is used in various components, ranging from interior parts to exterior elements, engines, bumpers, battery compartment covers, and motor gears. In addition, more applications have been developed in the past two years, such as charging stations, lithium battery holders, aluminum-plastic films for soft-pack batteries, and wet-process separators – all of which will contribute to the rapid growth of nylon usage. Currently, German cars make the highest use of modified nylon, with 25 kilograms of such plastic used per vehicle; the average level in Europe and the United States is also 20 kilograms per vehicle. In China, however, the amount of modified nylon used per vehicle is only 10–15 kilograms. Based on 2021 data, China’s total automobile production reached 26.08 million units. As vehicles become lighter, an increase of 5 kilograms in the use of modified nylon per vehicle can create a new market worth 130,000 tons – indicating promising prospects.
