On May 21, reporters learned at a meeting to coordinate the preliminary work for Sinopec’s Ordos green hydrogen production project that the preliminary work for Sinopec’s first green hydrogen refining project – the Ordos 10,000-ton/year green hydrogen production project – is progressing smoothly. This project has been included in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region’s key projects for 2021, with completion and operation planned for 2022. Various organizations, including the Development Planning Department of Sinopec Group Company, Xinxing Petroleum Company, Zhongtian Hechuang, China Energy Engineering Group North China Institute, Sinopec Engineering Co., Ltd. (SEI), and the Inner Mongolia Petroleum Branch, attended the meeting to have in-depth discussions on the next steps for project advancement. It is reported that, in line with the goal of establishing China’s leading hydrogen energy company and the hydrogen energy development plan for the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Xinxing Petroleum Company will carry out the preliminary work; the green hydrogen produced will be used in the Zhongtianhechuang coal chemical project. This project is an integrated power source, grid, load, and storage initiative that also incorporates multiple energy sources, and it will serve as a model for the development of green hydrogen-based refining processes. It will also help Zhongtian Hechuang reduce carbon emissions and improve production efficiency.
