On July 10, 2021, good news came from Jiyuan Coal Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. in Etoke Banner: its plant capable of producing 260,000 tons of ethylene glycol per year from coke oven exhaust gas was put into operation successfully, and polyester-grade ethylene glycol was produced with a purity of 99.94%; all parameters met the standards specified in GB/T4649-2018. The project utilizes the syngas-to-ethylene glycol technology provided by Shanghai Pujing Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Pujing Chemical”). The 260,000 tons per year ethylene glycol production project using coke oven gas at Jianyuan Coal Chemicals commenced operation of the esterification compressor on June 29, with preparations underway to start ethylene glycol synthesis ; At 22:49 on June 29, the system successfully supplied oxygen in a single operation; at 02:47 on June 30, qualified dimethyl oxalate was produced and sent to the hydrogenation unit, while at 06:41, the crude ethylene glycol product was sent to the distillation unit ; At 8:00 on July 8, the entire production process was operational, and polyester-grade ethylene glycol was produced; currently, the production capacity of each ethylene glycol plant is at 95%, with the plants operating stably. This facility is the sixth industrial ethylene glycol project case authorized by Pu Jing Chemical. Using coke oven off-gas as raw material, compared to ethylene glycol produced from coal, this method not only enables the resource utilization of the off-gas, is environmentally friendly, but also has lower costs, giving it strong market competitiveness.
