Tianji Group’s First Carbon Emission Allowances Successfully Traded Author/Source: Coal Chemicals Journal Date: 2021-09-23 Clicks: 43 News from the National Carbon Emission Trading Platform: At 10 a.m. on September 16, Tianji Group’s first batch of carbon emission allowances was successfully traded, with a volume of 100 tons, a price of 45 yuan per ton, resulting in a total transaction value of 4,500 yuan. The successful completion of this first transaction holds great significance as it marks the beginning of Tianji Group’s carbon trading activities, providing a useful example for the smooth advancement of such transactions in the future. At the same time, the implementation of carbon emission trading is in line with enterprises’ desire for a green and low-carbon transformation, and it generates profits for enterprises through proactive emission reductions, thereby enhancing their internal motivation to cut emissions. It is reported that Tianji Group has an excess quota available for carbon trading each year, amounting to 200,000 t to 300,000 t. Carbon emission trading involves making the rights to emit greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, a scarce resource under the premise of controlling total global emissions, thereby endowing them with commodity properties. The official launch of online trading in the national carbon emission rights trading market has encouraged enterprises to make greater use of market mechanisms to control and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, thereby promoting a green and low-carbon transformation in the mode of economic development. This approach helps to **fulfill commitments to strengthen ecological civilization and meet international emission reduction targets, while also advancing the achievement of carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.** The carbon trading mechanism involves trading carbon emission allowances (CEAs) through a trading system, using both auction-based transactions and block trade arrangements. In recent years, Tianji Group has been continuously improving its carbon asset management practices. In March 2021, it obtained an account in the national carbon emission rights registration, settlement system issued by the Hubei Carbon Exchange Center; in May, it was determined that its allocated quotas for the periods 2019–2020 amounted to 1.331 million tons. In August, the company received an account for the National Carbon Emission Trading System issued by the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange, and completed tasks such as account opening, registration, and bank account linking. Once Tianji Group met the requirements for carbon trading, it kept a close eye on market price changes. On September 16, it conducted its first trial transaction in small volumes through agreement-based trading on the National Carbon Emission Trading Platform; at 10 a.m., the buyer withdrew their bid, and the transaction was successful.
