(referred to as “Ningxia Kunpeng”) successfully established power supply at its 110kV substation; that same day, the company’s electrical load was successfully transferred from the 35kV system to the 110kV system. The vice president of Baoli Group was present at the site. The completion and operation of the Kunpeng 110kV substation have led to a significant improvement in the company’s power supply reliability. It is of great significance for the safe production and economic operation of the company’s various facilities. At 02:10 on October 29, 2022, upon the issuance of the closing command, the Kunpeng 110kV substation was successfully powered up at once; the equipment within the station started up under power and operated normally. A substation is a power facility in the electrical system that is used for voltage transformation, receiving and distributing electrical energy, controlling the direction of electricity flow, and regulating voltage. It connects power grids at different voltage levels through its transformers. As a key control element in the power industry, a substation is responsible for ensuring reliable power supply, as well as powering various systems such as signal systems, information systems, and fire protection systems. Once the 110kV substation begins to operate, it will provide power for the communication and signaling equipment used in all the facilities of the Kunpeng project. At 03:40 on October 29, 2022, the Kunpeng 110kV substation was successfully brought online in one go, connecting the company’s power supply to this 110kV substation and thereby ensuring power supply for all of the company’s equipment. Ningxia Kunpeng’s 400,000-ton ethylene glycol production uses coal as raw material, employs Shenning furnace powder gasification, and utilizes Japanese Takakemical’s dimethyl oxalate technology for ethylene glycol synthesis. Among them, the air separation unit is two sets of oxygen production capacity of 68,000 m3/h provided by Hangyang. Project Overview: The 400,000-ton per year coal-to-ethylene glycol production project of Ningxia Kunpeng Clean Energy Co., Ltd. uses coal as raw material, employs Shenning furnace powder gasification, and utilizes Japanese Takahashi Chemical’s technology for the production of ethylene glycol from dimethyl oxalate. The products are 400,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol, 52,000 m3/h of hydrogen, and 400,000 tons per year of diethylene glycol. Among them, methylene alcohol amounts to 328,000 tons, while ethanol amounts to 36,200 tons. The main construction components include 10 core production units such as gasification, shift and heat recovery, low-temperature methanol washing, PSA hydrogen production, CO cryogenic separation, methanol synthesis unit, sulfur recovery, and ethylene glycol, along with supporting utilities and auxiliary facilities such as a circulating water system, sewage treatment plant, tank farm, loading/unloading facilities, and flares. The entire process is scheduled to be completed by June 30, 2021. Ningxia Kunpeng Clean Energy Co., Ltd. is a mixed-ownership enterprise established jointly by Ningdong Development and Investment Company, Ningxia Changyi Technology Development Co., Ltd., and Ningxia Industrial Guidance Fund Management Center (Co., Ltd.). The project it invested in to produce 400,000 tons of coal-based ethylene glycol per year has a total investment of 4.331 billion yuan; it is being built in two phases, with Phase 1 requiring an investment of 3.597 billion yuan to construct a plant capable of producing 200,000 tons of coal-based ethylene glycol per year along with all the necessary auxiliary facilities ; The second phase of investment amounts to 734 million yuan, used to build a plant with an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons of coal-based ethylene glycol. Ningxia Kunpeng Clean Energy Co., Ltd. was established in August 2018 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ningxia Baoli New Energy. With a registered capital of 1.5 billion yuan, it is a key enterprise focused on the production of clean energy in the Ningdong area. The company collaborates with Ningdong Investment Company (which contributes 30% of the capital) to build a project that produces 400,000 tons of coal-based ethylene glycol per year. The ethylene glycol project of Ningxia Kunpeng Clean Energy Co., Ltd. was jointly invested in and constructed by Ningxia Baoli New Energy Co., Ltd. and Ningxia Ningdong Development Investment Co., Ltd. The company undertakes the construction of power stations and air separation unit projects. This project is a demonstration project for the modern coal chemical industry; it plays a vital role in completing the entire industrial chain in the Ningdong Chemical Industry Base in Ningxia, accelerating the transformation and upgrading of the industry, and establishing a first-class modern coal chemical base that is technologically advanced, industry-leading, and of world-class standard. The coal-to-ethylene glycol project is a key industrial project for the autonomous region and the Ningdong Management Committee. Its implementation fills the gap in the coal-to-ethylene glycol industry within the Ningdong area, enriches the modern coal chemical industry chain and product portfolio. It plays an important role in guiding and facilitating the industrial transformation and upgrading as well as the shift from old to new forms of energy production in both the autonomous region and the Ningdong area.
