Itai Yili’s 1 million-ton coal-to-oil project aims to complete construction by the end of the year, with products available by June next year

On May 17, 2026, the project team for Yitai Ili Coal-to-Oil Project at the Shandong branch held a mobilization meeting to boost efforts, as well as the launching ceremony for the labor competition themed “Six Competitions and Six Innovations: Striving for Excellence through Hard Work”. This marked the start of intensive construction efforts, with the goal of achieving the project’s target deadline of November 20 and creating a benchmark for high-quality projects in the industry. According to Shaanxi Huajian, the company is responsible for the construction of three key units in the Yitai Yili coal-to-oil project: the purification system, the oil synthesis unit, and the second circulating water plant. It also handles the lifting and transportation of the large-scale equipment throughout the plant. Shaanxi Huajian is progressing in accordance with the CCCC target set for October 30, 2026. According to a report on the Chabuchar County government website in May 2026, at the site of the Yitai Ili Energy’s 1 million-ton coal-to-oil project, tall towers stand everywhere, pipelines crisscross the area, various large-scale equipment are operating properly, construction vehicles move back and forth, and workers are busy carrying out tasks such as welding and plastering. Currently, the overall progress is 77% complete; the detailed engineering design has been finished in its entirety, the procurement of key supply equipment is complete, and the purchase of bulk materials is nearing completion. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026; joint trial operations will take place in early 2027, with qualified products available by June. The Yitai Ili Energy 1 million tons per year coal-to-oil project uses local coal as raw material, employing the multi-nozzle water-coal slurry gasification technology developed by East China University of Science and Technology, as well as the coal-to-oil technology invented by Sinocat Synthetic Oil Company. It produces a total of 1.0582 million tons per year of products such as alkylbenzenes, high-carbon alcohols, high-quality light hydrocarbons, FTO waxes, n-C10-14 compounds, white oils, liquid paraffins, and liquefied petroleum gas; meanwhile, by-products such as mixed alcohols and sulfur are also generated.
