The construction of Xinjiang Yihang’s 5-million-ton-per-year demonstration project for the clean and efficient comprehensive utilization of coal began on March 29. Alehui Town in Toksun County, Turpan City, witnessed a significant industrial breakthrough – the construction of this project carried out by Xinjiang Yihang New Materials Co., Ltd., with a total investment of 7.1 billion yuan, to achieve 5-million tons per year of clean and efficient coal utilization. This project is also the third large-scale coal chemical project to be constructed in Tuoxun County, following Xinjiang Tianyu Coal Chemical Co., Ltd.’s 5 million tons per year project for the clean and efficient comprehensive utilization of coal by different grades, and Xinjiang Jiaxin Energy Technology Co., Ltd.’s project for the co-production of clean energy. As a demonstration project for the clean and efficient comprehensive utilization of coal in Tuoxun County, the project adopts an advanced model of \"graded upgrading of oil-rich coal + circular economy\". Leveraging the high-quality long-flame coal resources with extremely low sulfur content and high calorific value in the Heishan mining area of Tuoksun County, the project innovatively adopts a multi-product coal pyrolysis technology system, and simultaneously builds facilities for carbon dioxide capture and the production of methanol using green hydrogen, thereby creating a closed-loop industrial chain that covers everything from the graded utilization of coal to the recycling of carbon resources. Zhao Liang, project manager at Xinjiang Yihang New Materials Co., Ltd., explained that the project is being constructed in two phases. The first phase is scheduled to be completed within 33 months, and upon completion it will have the capacity to process 5 million tons of raw coal per year. It will produce high-value products such as 2.26 million tons of upgraded coal, 300,000 tons of liquefied natural gas, and 100,000 tons of green methanol. Meanwhile, a domestically leading deep-processing system for coal tar will also be established as part of this project. Upon reaching full production capacity, the project is expected to generate an annual output value of 5.6 billion yuan and create over a thousand job opportunities. Tuoxun County is located in the Central Tianshan metallogenic belt and boasts rich mineral resources. Among them, coal resources are particularly abundant, with proven reserves exceeding 15 billion tons, and an additional 28 billion tons of reserves are estimated to be available. This coal type is a long-flame coal with extremely low ash, phosphorus, and sulfur content, as well as a high calorific value; it possesses a high added value when subjected to further processing, making it an excellent coal source for the production of coal-to-oil, coal-to-olefins, and activated carbon.
