According to the official website of the Management Committee of the Jundong Economic and Technological Development Zone in Xinjiang, on September 20, the 2 billion cubic meters per year coal-to-natural gas project operated by TBEA Xinjiang Juneng Chemical Co., Ltd. began construction at the Jiangjunmiao Industrial Park in that economic and technological development zone. The total investment in this project is 17 billion yuan, and it covers an area of 197 hectares. The construction includes main facilities such as air separation, gasification, purification, and methanation. At present, the project has received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission as well as the environmental impact assessment approval from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. It is expected that the foundation work for the main facilities will be completed by the end of this year, the project will be built by the end of 2026, and it will go into full operation in 2027. According to a statement released by TBEA on April 1, the company holds coal reserves of over 12 billion tons in the Zhundong region, with an approved coal production capacity of 74 million tons per year, giving it an advantage in terms of low-cost coal supply. The coal-to-gas project is expected to process 5.7974 million tons of raw coal per year, with a natural gas production capacity of 2.054 billion cubic meters per year; it will also produce by-products such as coal tar, middle oil, crude benzene, and ammonium sulfate. It is reported that the Zhundong coalfield is China’s largest integrated coalfield, with estimated coal reserves of 390 billion tons. In recent years, thanks to its abundant coal resources, the Zhundong Development Zone has made significant progress in the coal chemical industry. So far this year, various coal chemical projects have been launched, including the Shandong Energy Yankuang Xinjiang Energy Chemical Zhundong Coal Chemical Integration Project, which has a planned total investment of 33.8 billion yuan; the Energy Zhundong project for the production of 2 billion cubic meters of coal-based natural gas per year; and the Dongfang Hope Group’s Zhundong Coal, Electricity, and Chemicals Integration Project, with a total investment of 19 billion yuan.
