China accounts for over 70% of the world’s coke production, yet the automation and intelligence levels in the coking industry remain insufficient. Currently, the method of adjusting the flame in coke ovens still relies on traditional empirical methods; to make fine adjustments to the gas flow rate, the screw plugs on the manifold are removed. In this process, iron wires of the same diameter are inserted into the holes of the orifice plates to increase the effective flow area, thereby enabling flame adjustment. This approach depends heavily on the expertise and experience of the technicians responsible for such adjustments, and the operation method is relatively crude. Moreover, these technicians must open the manifold within a limited time frame, and frequent opening and closing of the screw plugs poses a risk of gas leakage. It is therefore urgent to reduce the risky operations carried out in the underground areas of coke ovens. Taking all the above flame tuning methods into account, a new fine-tuning program for the tuner is required. The specific requirements are: simple flame tuning that is easy for non-professionals to use, high precision, stable cross-row coefficients, resolution of the issue of low temperatures in the side sections of cross-row machines as well as large temperature differences between different furnace numbers in such machines, and guaranteed stable temperatures at the furnace tips. Given the urgent need to change these methods of adjusting the fire in coke ovens, Saiding Coking Company, together with Taiyuan University of Technology and Shaanxi Xiangrui Electrical Engineering Automation Co., Ltd., has developed a precision regulator for adjusting the fire in coke ovens. The fine tuner reduces flow resistance by adjusting the position of the orifice plates in the small branch pipes, thereby saving flow volume; it increases the flow speed of the gas, raises the flame height, and ensures the quality of the coke at the top of the carbonization chamber as well as an effective upward heating effect. By observing the coking condition of the coke directly through the heat dissipation holes in the roof carbonization chamber, it is evident that there are noticeable contraction gaps on both sides of the coke and the furnace wall; the horizontal and vertical textures are clear, and there is no black layer on the surface, resulting in a distinct contrast. Advantages of the fine tuner: 1. It enables adjustment of the gas flow in the smaller branches while keeping the pressure of the furnace gas constant, thereby reducing the resistance and workload associated with the traditional wire-insertion method, and ensuring optimal gas flow for heating. It enables precise adjustment of individual burners, laying a technical foundation for the intelligent heating of coke ovens in the future. 2. Adjust the flame height by taking into account the size of the orifice plate and the effective cross-sectional area of the fine-tuner, increase the velocity of the coal gas flow, enhance the upward heating effect, achieve more uniform heating of the coke cake, improve the quality of the coke, and simultaneously save coal gas. 3. Different horizontal positions result in varying adjustment amounts, allowing for precise, quantitative, and visual adjustments; this enables the adjustment amounts to be quantified, simplifies operations, and reduces the requirements for handling them. The fine-tuner device is designed to meet all the requirements for adjusting the flame in burners; it features dual scales for adjustment and position memory. The combination of tapered pins and tapered orifice plates enables precise adjustment of the gas flow in each burner, ensuring stable and controllable temperature coefficients across the burners. It is simple to operate, flexible, easy to understand, and requires no maintenance, thus completely replacing the traditional, rough methods of flame adjustment. 4. According to production adjustments, shorten the production cycle (increase output) and raise the furnace temperature. In case of special circumstances, the gas supply to the small branch pipes can be completely turned off, allowing for localized work on the flue. 5. It enables adjustment of the entire row, allowing for adjustments to abnormal burners; this facilitates the achievement of temperature balance among the burners on the machine side, ensures controllable temperatures for the burners at the furnace tip, and ultimately guarantees the quality of the coke. The main functions of the regasifier for coke ovens are as follows: 1. Improving the heating effect in the upper region. The regasifier alters the installation position of the orifice plates; by moving these plates backward, it replaces the traditional flat-orifice design with a tapered, trumpet-shaped orifice design. In combination with conical pins, this setup allows for precise control of flow velocity and volume by using an effective cross-sectional area, thereby significantly reducing flow resistance. This enhances the flow rate of the coal gas, promotes better heating in the upper region, ensures balanced flow in the horizontal flues of the combustion chamber, enables controllable temperatures at the furnace tip, and improves the overall maturity of the coke. Chambers equipped with fine-tuning devices help improve the upward heating in the corresponding carbonization chambers, thereby greatly preventing the formation of coke in those upper areas. 2. Saving gas flow: By using scientific methods and making precise adjustments based on factors such as the condition of the coke oven and the suction force in the flue, the gas flow can be controlled. While ensuring the quality of the coke, it is possible to precisely regulate and reduce the gas flow at the end of the coking process, thereby saving gas, increasing the flow rate and the efficiency of upward heating, and ultimately reducing the coking time.
