The dry quenching project at Xiaoyi Pengfei Coking Plant was successfully put into operation. Author/Source: Huahua Network – Coal Chemical Industry. Date: August 23, 2020. Clicks: 148. At 10:58 on August 20, Shanxi Pengfei Group held a ceremony to mark the commissioning of the dry quenching system; the heating process for Plant No. 1’s 170 t/h dry quenching unit at Pengfei Coking Plant in Xiaoyi City was completed, and the first batch of red coke was successfully produced. This makes it the first coking plant in Xiaoyi City to operate a dry quenching system. The Pengfei Coking dry quenching project is capable of quenching 2.6 million tons of coke per year on a dry basis; by recovering the waste heat from the red coke, it is possible to generate 1.6 million tons of high-temperature, high-pressure steam per year, as well as 376 million kWh of electricity per year. This results in an additional annual output value of over 200 million yuan. By using dry quenching, coking costs can be reduced by about 10%, the moisture content of coke can be lowered by around 8%, and approximately 1.3 million tons per year of steam containing harmful substances can be eliminated from emissions; it can also replace corresponding coal- and gas-fired boilers. Dry quenching of coke refers to a method of cooling coke by using inert gases to lower its temperature. Compared to the traditional wet quenching method, the most obvious change is that no large amounts of steam are released during quenching; as a result, harmful substances contained in that steam, such as coke dust, phenols, and sulfides, are also eliminated. In a closed environment, the dry quenching furnace is used to extinguish coke; electricity can be generated from the waste heat produced by this furnace, thereby replacing the use of coal or gas in boilers for power generation, and reducing the emission of pollutants such as dust, sulfur dioxide, and carbon monoxide. With the cost of coal raw materials remaining unchanged, it can improve the quality of coke – increasing the M40 value by 3% to 8%, and reducing the M10 value by 0.3% to 0.5%. It ensures uniformity in the size of coke particles, which contributes to an increase in strength after processing. By using more low-quality coal in the coal mix, it is still possible to achieve strength levels comparable to those of high-quality coal, thereby increasing profits and reducing costs. The Pengfei dry quenching project is equipped with two sets of dry quenching units, along with supporting systems such as boilers, auxiliary equipment, power generation systems, circulating water systems, and coke cooling systems. After operation begins, the heat that was previously converted into steam and dispersed into the air will be recovered for power generation, to be used in processes such as coking and methanol production. This not only reduces energy consumption and production costs but also facilitates the recycling of resources, in line with the concept of building eco-friendly green factories. The Pengfei Coking production base has been designated as a \"Green Factory\" by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. In the construction of this facility, in line with the group’s overall strategy for \"5G + intelligent coal chemical industry\" development, intelligent control technologies were employed to enable remote monitoring and automatic adjustment of various production processes. This approach accelerates the industrial application of 5G technology, helping to create the first 5G-based coal chemical enterprise in the country.
