On November 20, after the rain stopped and the sun shone brightly, another major production unit in the Zhong’an United Coal Chemicals project was completed. The polyethylene unit, which is one of the plants for producing final products, was completed on time and to high standards. Since the resumption of work on the Zhongan project, the construction unit has strictly followed the requirements of the overall plan, organizing the construction of the facilities in an orderly manner. It has paid close attention to the \"five key areas of control\" – safety, quality, schedule, costs, and contracts. With the successful installation of the reactor in the polyethylene plant on January 15th, and the one-time installation of the degassing tank, which weighs 275 tons and has a lifting height of 100 meters, on January 19th, the equipment installation phase for the polyethylene plant officially began. After nearly a year of intensive construction, the polyethylene plant completed tasks such as the installation of 217 units of equipment, the welding of pipelines with a total length of 122,500 inches, anti-corrosion and insulation work, individual unit tests, as well as the implementation of the \"three inspections and four determinations\" procedures; in total, 2.2 million safe man-hours were invested in this process. Through the joint efforts of all parties involved in the project, the polyethylene plant was delivered ahead of the scheduled deadline as agreed in the contract, laying a solid foundation for its commissioning and operation on schedule. The linear low-density polyethylene plant is one of the two polyolefin plants in the Zhongan United Coal Chemical Project, and was constructed under the general contract by Sinopec Shanghai Engineering Company. The plant utilizes the SGPE gas-phase polyethylene technology provided by Sinopec Technology & Development Corporation; it uses ethylene as the raw material and butene-1 or hexene-1 as comonomers to produce full-density polyethylene resin with a density of 916–965 kg/m3, and its designed production capacity is 350,000 tons per year. In accordance with the overall project control plan, the unit is scheduled to begin trial operation with feedstock in May 2019. The Zhong’an United Coal Chemical Integration Project is a key initiative under the strategic cooperation between Sinopec and Anhui Province; it serves as an important model for Anhui Province to develop new types of manufacturing industries and build itself into a strong industrial province. Once the Zhongan United project is completed, its polyolefin products will serve as an effective alternative to imported goods, meeting the demand for chemical raw materials such as polyethylene and polypropylene in the surrounding markets. Meanwhile, it will also contribute positively to the transformation and development of the local economy, as well as to Sinopec’s efforts to optimize its industrial structure and take the lead in the world in terms of the clean and efficient use of coal.

On December 5, the major science and technology project in Anhui Province undertaken by Zhongan United, namely the “1.7 million tons per year coal-to-methanol to olefins project – Development of Gas Flow Bed Dry Slag Discharge Gasification Technology for Coal with High Ash Fusion Point,” passed the evaluation by an expert panel. The successful completion of this project opens up a new technical pathway for the gasification of coal with high ash fusion point. Dong Zhongbing, Deputy Chairman of the Huainan Political Consultative Conference; Jiang Yong and Zhou Lijin, leaders of the company and its subsidiaries; representatives from the Anhui Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Huainan Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, as well as representatives of the project partners and relevant personnel from Zhong’an United, attended the acceptance review meeting. Commissioned by the Anhui Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Huainan Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology organized experts to conduct an evaluation of the provincial major science and technology project undertaken by Zhong’an United. During the acceptance process, the expert group carefully listened to the reports on the relevant work carried out by Zhong’an United, reviewed the associated technical documents, and inspected the project site in person. After inquiries and discussions, the expert group concluded that the project had met all the criteria specified in the contract, and agreed to approve its acceptance. This major provincial science and technology project was applied for and approved in 2015. The collaborating institutions on the project include Anhui University of Science and Technology, Nanjing Normal University, Anhui University, and Anhui Huahua Co., Ltd. The project focuses on studying the gasification performance of Zhujixi coal in SE-Eastern furnace systems, investigating the relationship between the gasification characteristics of coal with high ash fusion points and the agglomeration properties of ash residues, and developing a process model for dry slag removal in fluidized bed gasification. It is reported that the success achieved in the trial operation of the SE-Eastern furnace unit at Yangzi Petrochemical using Zhujixi coal, along with research on dry slag discharge technology and the future industrial application of related technologies, will completely change the historical situation in which Huainan coal could only be used as fuel coal rather than for chemical applications. This will play a positive role in improving the economic efficiency of enterprises and ensuring a stable supply of raw materials. Meanwhile, it holds significant strategic importance for Anhui Province and Sinopec in optimizing resource allocation.
